RAPAPORT... The American Gem Society (AGS) will resume grading synthetic diamonds after an eight-year pause. The group will offer digital reports for lab-grown stones as part of its Only My Diamond (OMD) platform, an online service to help the user understand the different grading elements, it said Monday. The reports will feature unique color and clarity terminology, laser inscriptions that clearly identify the diamond as lab-grown, and the stone's growth details. AGS will also list educational information on its platform, including a section on the 4Cs of synthetic diamonds."As the market expands, consumers need a diamond-grading report that clearly explains the characteristics of laboratory-grown diamonds," said Jason Quick, executive director of AGS Laboratories. AGS will begin offering the reports as part of a pilot program, and will expand its services later this year, it added.Image: Lab-grown diamonds. (Diamond Foundry)
