(IDEX Online) - Alrosa's new CEO, Pavel Marynichev, has been sanctioned the US, as his predecessor Sergey Ivanov was before him.The US State Department announced last Thursday that it was imposing additional sanctions on individuals and entities to degrade Russia's current and future military capabilities. It said Marinychev was being designated for "operating or having operated in the metals and mining sector of the Russian Federation economy".In May he was appointed chairman and CEO of Russia's state-controlled miner for the next three years.Marynichev (pictured) worked as a government official for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), where his remit included geology, before joining Alrosa, the state-run miner, as CEO of its Almazy Anabara (Diamonds of Anabara) division. He replaced Ivanov, who was sanctioned by the US, together with his father, after Russia invaded Ukraine last February.Alrosa has officially been sanctioned by the US since the start of the war in February 2022, although the ban does not cover rough stones polished outside Russia, and has had little impact on its sales. The US State Department said it was designating multiple senior government officials and malign actors as part of its continued efforts against "Russia's illegal war".
