(IDEX Online) - Alrosa is to offer online bidders additional information - such as color assessments, fluorescence intensity and descriptions of defects - in digital auctions starting today.The Russian miner began testing the digital diamond sales format in autumn 2019, and held its first digital auction for special-size rough diamonds (+10.8 carats) the following year.It says it aims to make digital auctions as similar as possible to traditional auctions in terms of convenience and efficiency.The extra data will be available for an online sale of over 2,000 carats of special-size rough diamonds running from 22 September to 13 October.Bidders will be able to see a video of each diamond against various backdrops, to visually evaluate the nature and colour of inclusions, and UV photos to assess luminescence.Evgeny Agureev, Alrosa's deputy CEO, said: Through continuous dialogue with our buyers, we are tirelessly working to refine the process, in order to make digital auctions as similar as possible to traditional auctions in terms of convenience and efficiency."Pic courtesy Alrosa
