ALUMINIUM BILLET WRAP: German premium hits fresh low; premiums outside Europe unchanged

Aluminium billet premiums remained under pressure in the week ended Friday December 20 despite low liquidity ahead of the holiday break.

The billet premium in Germany fell on Friday to a record low since Fastmarkets began pricing it in 2012. The aluminium 6063 extrusion billet premium, ddp North Germany (Ruhr region) was assessed at $280-300 per tonne from $300-320 per tonne the week before.
Some deals were heard below $250 per tonne, and liquidity remains low in the region ahead of the holiday season.
Fastmarkets assessed the aluminium 6063 extrusion billet premium, ddp Italy (Brescia region) unchanged at a record-low $270-300 per tonne on December 20.
Market participants noted that they received some bids as low as $240-250 per tonne, but this was not seen as a serious level at which business could be done.
