US premium strengthens to one-year high
Fastmarkets assessed the
aluminium 6063 extrusion billet premium, delivered Midwest US, at $0.075-0.095 per lb on Friday, widening upward from $0.075-0.085 cents per lb on October 9.
The premium was now at its highest since it was assessed at the same range on October 7 last year.
Sources told Fastmarkets that demand has picked up markedly over the past month, with extruders' appetite for billet outpacing tightening supply in the US. Demand was heard to be vigorous across the main extrusion end-use sectors, particularly in transportation and residential construction.
Demand was also heard to be recovering in the truck-trailer sector, which had been the weakest sector in previous months.
