Chilean miner Antofagasta produced 188,600 tonnes of copper during the first quarter of 2019, up by 22.6% from the corresponding period in 2018 because of higher throughput and ore grades, the company said on Wednesday April 24.
Production was down by 14.3% from the previous quarter's record copper production of 220,000 tonnes, however, due to scheduled maintenance at the Los Pelambres and Centinela mines, London-listed Antofagasta added.Individually, Los Pelambres produced 89,200 tonnes of copper in the first quarter, 10% more than in the same quarter last year, because of higher throughput and grades.
