Earlier this week the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum recognized Roy Slack as the new president for a one-year term. He is the former president and is currently a board member of Cementation Americas.

Toronto-based Ivanhoe Mines has named Tony. S. Giardini its new president. Lars-Eric Johansson, who has been president and CEO since May 2007, is retiring at the end of June 2019. He will oversee the development of the company's three projects in Africa - Kamoa-Kakula, Platreef and Kipushi.

Eduardo Bartolomeo is the new CEO of Brazilian miner Vale S.A. He has been interim CEO since March 2019, two months after the tailings dam collapse in Brumadinho. Bartolomeo has been a senior executive of the company for 10 years, most recently as executive director of base metals in Canada.

Wolfden Resources Corp. of Thunder Bay, Ont., has hired Jeremy Ouellette as VP project development as the company's Pickett Mountain zinc-lead-copper project in Maine moves forward. The company has also added Bill Fisher and Scott Trebilcock to its technical advisory board.
