(IDEX Online) - The Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) has announced it will x-ray all diamond parcels at the customs area of the bourse. This move will prevent any illegal cargo being added to diamond parcels and comes in response to the discovery of an electronic item in a parcel of diamonds.

In this instance, a logistics company took the from the precious cargo customs clearance centre (PCCCC) at the BDB to the air cargo complex, reports The Economic Times. The electronic device was revealed when the parcel was scanned at the airport prior to being loaded onto a flight.

Following the discovery, customs suspended the broker's license for a month and also looked into the role of the broker's logistics company.

Anoop Mehta, president of the BDB told The Economic Times that the new system will prevent any irregularities in the future. The BDB is responsible for precious cargo in the PCCCC as well as securing it from there for export.
