BETTING ON BLOCKCHAIN: Glencore, ERG, CMOC JV to track cobalt from mine to EV

Major metals and mining companies Glencore, Eurasian Resources Group (ERG) and China Molybdenum Company (CMOC) are collaborating with battery material supplier Umicore to pilot ReISource, a blockchain technology solution to trace responsibly-produced cobalt from the mine to the electric vehicle (EV).

The companies said that a global pioneer of EVs and one of the world's leading battery makers are also part of the pilot, although did not specify names.
EV maker Tesla is a member of the Fair Cobalt Alliance (FCA), an organization seeking to improve artisanal mining conditions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and of which Glencore is a founding member.

The pilot will run until the end of 2021 and will be tested in real operating conditions from Glencore, ERG and CMOC's upstream cobalt production facilities in the DRC to downstream EV production...
