Bill seeking aluminium pricing oversight reintroduced into US Congress

Bipartisan legislation intended to increase transparency in aluminium pricing has been reintroduced into the United States House of Representatives, a move welcomed by the country's consumer trade associations.

If it is eventually approved, the legislation would provide the US regulator, the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), with a clear mandate to conduct oversight of price reporting and price-setting entities within the aluminium markets and to investigate them if necessary.
The Aluminum Pricing Examination (APEX) Act, which was originally introduced in October 2018, is backed by Representatives Al Lawson, a Democrat from Florida, and Ken Buck, a Republican from Colorado, and has been referred to the House Committee on Agriculture.
In addition to Lawson, the original APEX Act legislation eventually had 44 co-sponsors but did not progress further.
