Blockchain Company Everledger Closes $20 Million in Funding

(IDEX Online) - Blockchain startup Everledger has closed a $20 million funding round led by Chinese Internet-based service provider Tencent Holdings Ltd. Everledger provides blockchain services to a range of sectors including the diamond industry. 

Everledger's diamond clients include Brilliant Earth, Rare Carat, Chow Tai Fook and GIA, Hari Krishna Exports and the Singapore Diamond Investment Exchange. 

Leanne Kemp, Everledger's founder and CEO said the company will partner with Tencent on the launch of the world's first WeChat Mini Program for blockchain-enabled diamonds. She said the program would unite key stakeholders in the diamond value chain and "empower WeChat users to buy jewelry with more transparency and security." 

Kemp added that with Tencent as a partner, Everledger would strengthen its position in China.

Graphene Ventures, Bloomberg Beta, Rakuten, Fidelity and Vickers Venture Partners also participated in the funding round.
