BlueRock sells a 12.2 carat diamond for $105,000

BlueRock Diamonds PLC, a diamond miner listed BlueRock Diamonds plc, listed on the AIM in London, reported it had sold a 12.2 carat diamond for $105,000. The price per carat realized stood at $8,584. BlueRock Diamonds owns and operates the Kareevlei Diamond Mine in the Kimberley region of South Africa. Blue Rock said that this diamond is the second most valuable diamond the firm had recovered to date, following the sale of a 24.98 carat diamond in the June tender for $196,000. Blue Rock's Executive Chairman Mike Houston commented: "We are delighted to have received in excess of $100,000 for this diamond and continue to be encouraged by the ongoing recovery of high-quality stones. We have made excellent progress in improving our operational practises at Kareevlei which has resulted in increased volumes and the more regular recovery of higher value stones." Kimberley, in South Africa, is the birthplace of diamond mining. Kareevlei consists of five known kimberlite pipes, produces diamonds of exceptional quality and ranks in the top ten in the world in terms of average value per carat.
