Brazil's apparent steel use down 5.6% in January, A??o Brasil says

Brazil's apparent consumption of steel totaled 1.54 million tonnes in January, down 5.6% from 1.63 million tonnes during the same month in 2018, national steel association Instituto A??o Brasil said on Friday February 22.

Performance lagged most in the flat steel market. Flat steel usage reached 905,000 tonnes in the month, as it fell by 8.2% from 986,000 tonnes in January 2018. Long steel consumption was at 637,000 tonnes, down by 1.5% from 647,000 tonnes year on year.According to A??o Brasil's data, imports went down much faster in an annual comparison, although domestic shipments from Brazilian mills also decreased, indicating a broad falloff in demand.Sales volumes from Brazilian producers to the domestic market were at 1.36 million tonnes in January, 3.7% less...
