Brazil's flat steel distributor sales up 106.7% in April - Inda

Sales volumes of flat-rolled steel by Brazilian distributors were up 106.69% in April from the corresponding period of 2020, amid a lower comparison basis and stronger end-user demand, national distributor association Inda said on Tuesday May 18.

Distributors sold 343,100 tonnes in April, an increase from 166,000 tonnes a year before, when there was a demand crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Sales volumes also rose 5.44% month on month from 325,400 tonnes in March, Inda added.
"April 2020 was an extremely weak month [for sales] due to the pandemic, so we might continue to see higher year-on-year growth," the association president, Carlos Loureiro, said on Tuesday. "We will see that rate softening throughout the year."

According to Inda's data, flat steel purchases by distributors totaled 345,100 tonnes in April, up 92.69% from 179,100 tonnes in the same month of 2020. Imports totaled 125,400 tonnes,...
