Sales volumes from flat-rolled steel distributors in Brazil grew by 19.4% in July 2020, compared with figures from the corresponding month in 2019, amid lower availability from steelmakers, distributors' association Inda said on Tuesday August 18.

Domestic shipments from Inda members totaled 344,000 tonnes in July, up from 288,000 tonnes a year before. Volumes also rose from 290,500 tonnes in June, the association added.
"The mills were forced to halt [operations at] blast furnaces due to Covid-19-related tumbling demand," Inda president Carlos Loureiro told journalists in a press conference on Tuesday. "But end-user consumption recovered faster than expected, causing an imbalance in the market."
