Brazil's mining output grows 9.6% in January-August, Ibram says

Brazilian mineral production rose by 9.61% year on year in January-August 2021 amid the inauguration or reopening of some iron ore operations in the country, national mining institute Ibram said on Wednesday October 6.

The country produced 833 million tonnes in the first eight months of 2021, up from 760 million tonnes a year before, according to the association. In the same period, mining revenues totaled 219.9 billion Reais ($40.25 billion), a 112.05% year-on-year increase compared with 103.7 billion Reais.
"[Output and revenue growth] were a result of some [iron ore] units [that had been] semi-closed or fully halted resuming activities this year, like Samarco... and foreign exchange also boosted revenues," Ibram chairman Wilson Brumer said in a press conference on Wednesday. "We may break a revenue record this year."
Notably, the January-August figures already surpassed the full-year 2020 revenue total of 209 billion Reais.
