Brazil steel distributor sales up 22.7% in March; mill price increases applied

Sales volumes from flat-steel distributors rose 22.65% in March, compared to figures from the same month in 2020, amid resilient demand and a stronger performance, national distributor association Inda said on Tuesday April 20.

Additionally, domestic prices were extremely competitive in comparison with imports despite recent increases applied by mills in April, according to the association.
Flat-rolled steel distributors sold 325,400 tonnes in March, up from 265,300 tonnes a year before. Sales of hot-rolled coil outgrew other types of steel, with 189,300 tonnes sold - a 40.85% year-on-year increase from 134,400 tonnes.
In the first quarter, total sales volumes reached 962,400 tonnes, up 16.05% from 829,300 tonnes a year before, Inda added.

At the same time, distributor purchases totaled 340,100 tonnes in March, up 24.81% from 272,500...
