Brazilian alumina exports fall 8% in May; but bauxite up 62%

Brazilian exports of alumina decreased by 7.81% in May 2021 over the corresponding month of last year, mainly due to reduced shipments from Norsk Hydro's Alunorte refinery, according to data published in the week ended Friday June 4 by the country's ministry of economy.

The country exported 718,843 tonnes of alumina in May, down from 779,769 tonnes a year before. The volume also fell month on month, down by 22.16% from 923,437 tonnes reported in April.

Alumina export revenues totaled $202.29 million during May, falling by 10.67% year-on-year from $226.45 million. The average price was $281.41 per tonne on an fob basis, a 3.09% decrease on...
