Brazilian flat steel, rebar prices hit by low demand

Brazilian domestic flat-rolled steel and reinforcing bar prices fell during the week ended Friday March 1, with discounts from past months consolidating in the market due to low demand.

Fastmarkets' monthly price assessment for Brazilian domestic hot-rolled coil was 2,425-2,470 Reais ($649-661) per tonne ex-works on March 1, down from 2,470-2,650 Reais per tonne ex-works a month earlier.The assessment for domestic cold-rolled coil reached 2,655-2,745 Reais per tonne ex-works compared with 2,745-2,850 Reais per tonne ex-works the previous month.But the assessment for hot-dipped galvanized coil was unchanged month on month at 3,250-3,310 Reais per tonne ex-works, with domestic supply for this product limited, market participants said.Weak demand from clients has been reported amid high inventories while industrial activity remained subdued in the first two months of the year, sources said.Discounts in early February were only applied for specific...
