(Kitco News) - Brazil's Vale today announcedthe resumption of conveyor belt operations at Salobo, that was halted for 18days due to a fire that partially affected the conveyor.
The causes of the fire arebeing investigated, the company said in a statement.
Processing plant operationswill resume today, Vale added, with ramp up of copper concentrates productionby October 25.
Vale said it estimates animpact of approximately 8kt on production, already incorporated in productionestimates for the 4th quarter.
On October 5, Vale reportedthat the production of copper concentrate at its Salobo mine was suspended dueto a fire affecting a conveyor belt.
According to the company'sdata, Salobo produced 172,700 tonnes of copper in 2020, nearly half of Vale'stotal copper output.
