Brazilian slab export prices slide; China turns to imports

Export prices for Brazil-origin slab dipped for a second consecutive week on Friday March 27, with local producers turning to China to keep volumes going while other markets are muted because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment of steel slab, export, fob main port Brazil, fell to $330-350 per tonne on Friday, from $400-430 per tonne a week earlier.
There were several reports that China was interested in importing slab due to growing confidence that the country's domestic steel market is picking up.

China, the world's largest steel producer, has already been importing billet from Russia and other countries as its domestic market...
