Brazilian steel sector expects to seek exemption from US Section 232

The Brazilian steel sector expects to negotiate exemptions for its exports from the Section 232 measures imposed by the United States once President-Elect Joe Biden takes office next January, according to national steel association A??o Brasil.

"With the new administration [in the US], we expect to have some room to negotiate again the exemption of [Brazil-origin] steel products from the Section 232 measures," A??o Brasil executive president Marco Polo de Mello Lopes said.

"If it is not possible to exclude all steel products [from Section 232 tariffs and quotas], we want at least to exempt semi-finished steel...
