Brazilian steelmaker CSN's slab output down in Q3 on maintenance outage

Output of steel slab by Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Sider??rgica Nacional (CSN) went down during the July-September quarter of 2018 because of a short outage for maintenance work, according to an earnings report published on Wednesday November 7.

The company produced 937,000 tonnes of slabs in the quarter, down by 12.30% from 1.07 million tonnes in the corresponding months of 2017. There were only 1,000 tonnes of third-party material bought during the period.CSN is planning a major stoppage of its largest blast furnace in July 2019, the company confirmed to Fastmarkets on November 8. Since the third quarter ended, the steelmaker has secured more supplies of third-party slabs to build inventories that will allow it to keep its rolling mills working at high capacity utilization.The investment needed for this...
