Brewer Budweiser in low-carbon aluminium beer can JV with En+, Elval, Canpack

Budweiser Brewing Group, the UK arm of Belgium-based brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), has launched a pilot project to produce beer cans made of low-carbon aluminium in partnership with the metals division of En+ Group, rolling company Eval and beverage can maker Canpack.

According to En+ Group, the project will see the production of 5 million Budweiser cans made with metal produced using a new inert anode aluminium technology, Allow Inerta, developed by En+ subsidiary Rusal.
The cans will have the smallest carbon footprint of any AB InBev Europe can, and will be sold through retailers in the UK as early as this autumn, En+ Group said.
Canpack UK will use renewable electricity to make the cans from aluminium coil manufactured by Greece-based Eval, the aluminium rolling division of ElvalHalcor. The cans will then be filled in the UK at Budweiser breweries in Magor, South Wales, and Samlesbury, Lancashire, powered by 100% renewable electricity, En+ Group added.
