Buried Treasure: Russian Police Dig up Gems from 2018 Heist

(IDEX Online) - Police have unearthed the contents of a suitcase containing $2.1m of diamonds and jewelry stolen from a Russian trade fair in July 2018.Colombian national Edgar Alejandro Valero led officers to the treasure, buried in woodland, in the Republic of Tatarstan, in Russia's Volga Federal District last week. He was arrested in Argentina in September 2019 and extradited to Russia. He is in custody awaiting trial.The diamonds and jewelry were stolen from an employee of the Seven Diamonds store at the pavilion of thr Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre. They were buried in four plastic bags."The confiscated jewelry will be handed over to the rightful owner in the near future," said Irina Volk, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.Pic shows some of the jewelry recovered by Russian police
