CESCO - INTERVIEW: Codelco's 'feng shui' copper scheme to ship copper by start of 2019, chairman says

The first shipments from Codelco's pilot scheme to produce decommoditized copper with traceability throughout the supply chain are expected at the end of the year or by the start of 2019, the chairman of the Chilean state-run copper company said.

According to ?"scar Landerretche, the scheme has been agreed upon with three customers: trading company Mitsui, French cable maker Nexans and automotive manufacturer BMW. "We're establishing a system of traceability with these customers in eight categories: carbon footprint, water footprint, territorial footprint [occupation of land], community footprint, safety and security, human rights, equal opportunities and ethics," he told Metal Bulletin during an interview at the annual CESCO Week copper conference in Santiago, Chile. "I expect towards the end of the year or early 2019, Codelco will start exporting its first certified copper in some of these categories.
