China's auto output, sales tumble in January

China's auto output fell by a third in January in comparison with a year earlier while sales declined by a quarter, according to estimates by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

The association, which expects these numbers to worsen in February, said on Thursday February 13 that it had not received data from all the companies it monitors because many of them have yet to return to work amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in China.
But it said it managed to source information on over 90% of these through various methods. As such, it stands by the accuracy of its estimates.
Only 59 key auto production sites out of a total of 183 in China have resumed work, the CAAM noted.
It estimates January's output at 1.783 million units, down by 33.5% year on year and 24.6% lower month on month.
