China's idled Al smelters plan to resume on higher SHFE Al price

Several idled aluminium smelters are scheduled to resume operations soon following a strong aluminum price on the Shanghai Futures Exchange, Fastmarkets was told on Tuesday June 22.

One long-term idled aluminium smelter in Qinghai province - located in the northwest of China - has been checking its operation lines recently with an aim to restart the plant at the beginning of the third quarter, several sources told Fastmarkets on June 22.

The aluminium smelter has a remaining production capacity of 250,000 tonnes, after it sold 350,000 tonnes of licensed capacity to another smelter in Inner Mongolia a few years ago, sources said.
