China to inspect all scrap imports from US

SHANGHAI, May 4 (SMM) – All waste raw materials imported from the US shall be subjected to inspections from May 4, according to a notice from China's customs administration. Deliveries cannot be sent into China without inspection. 

Copper scrap imported from the US accounted for 15% of China's total imports of copper scrap, and stood at 535,000 mt in 2017, SMM data showed.

In March, China imported 19,000 mt of Category Seven copper scrap from the US, and 28,300 mt of Category Six scrap. This translated to nearly 30,000 mt of copper content.
