Chinese manganese alloy smelters move to offload ore back into market

Some manganese alloy smelters in China are offering manganese ore back to the market after being shut down under measures aimed at controlling energy consumption, sources told Fastmarkets.

Ferro-alloys smelters in Inner Mongolia were ordered to suspend their operations for a month from March 5 in a move that is expected to remove 10,000-20,000 tonnes of silico-manganese from the market.

The smelters that are trying to offload their raw material on the market are understood to have been fully shut down, while those that have only had their production reduced can still consume the ore and are glad not to have to...
