(IDEX Online) - Christie's is to auction 106 pieces of runway jewelry designed by the late Karl Lagerfeld during his 36-year tenure as the brand's creative director.The statement brooches, necklaces, earrings and other items, many of them oversize, are made of rhinestone, faux pearl, gripoix glass and other non-precious materials. High estimates are up to $6,000 for the most valuable pieces.They are from a collection that belonged to Susan Gutfreund, a close friend of the iconic German fashion designer.She was wife of the late John Gutfreund, so-called King of Wall Street and chairman and chief executive of Salomon Brothers until a Treasury Bonds scandal in 1991 forced his resignation.Lagerfeld, known for his signature white hair, black sunglasses and fingerless gloves, died last February, aged 86.Christie's New York is offering a total of 665 lots from the Gutfreunds' famously lavish Fifth Avenue apartment, including furniture, carpets, textiles, Chinese ceramics, and other decorative artworks. They could fetch up to $7.4m.The online sale, entitled Susan and Karl: Important Chanel Fashion Jewelry from the Collection of Mrs. John H.
