Christie's has pushed back its New York and Geneva jewelry sales as the coronavirus spreads around the world.All three of the auction house's spring Magnificent Jewels sales, which generally occur between April and June, will now take place within a one-month period, according to the company's updated schedule.The New York Magnificent Jewels auction, which was due to take place in April, will now be held on June 11, while the Geneva sale, slated for May, will be on July 1. The Hong Kong sale will proceed as scheduled on June 2."The company has completed the first phase of a global review to revise the spring and summer auction schedule in the Americas and Europe," Christie's said last week. "Our first priority is to continue to act in the best interest of the community."Christie's will also hold a Magnificent Jewels sale in London on June 17, and a Fine Jewels sale in Paris on June 18.The sale dates may still change depending on how the pandemic develops and advice from the World Health Organization, Christie's warned.Image: Christie's New York at Rockefeller Center.
