CIS LONG STEEL: Prices hold amid insufficient demand

The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) export rebar and wire rod prices remained stable in the week to Monday May 18 while trading activity in the majority of the outlets was still modest, Fastmarkets learned.

Some market participants expected some improvement in finished long-steel prices following the uptick in the scrap and billet segments last week, but there was no sufficient support on the demand side.
Ukraine-origin rebar scheduled for shipment in June-July was available at $375-385 per tonne fob Black Sea, while recent bookings were done within the range of $375-380 per tonne fob in early May, sources said.
