CIS PIG IRON: Market strengthens as buyers start to accept higher prices

The market for pig iron exports from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) strengthened further during the week ended Thursday February 14 because buyers in the United States, the key outlet, started to accept higher offer prices.

Fastmarkets' price assessment for CIS exports of high-manganese pig iron was $335-340 per tonne fob Black Sea on February 14, up from $325-335 per tonne fob Black Sea.Russia-origin pig iron was heard sold to the US at around $355 per tonne cfr, or around $335 per tonne fob Black Sea, earlier this week. The latest deals from the Black Sea market to the US were done at around $345 per tonne cfr in mid-January.A deal for 70,000 tonnes of Russia-origin pig iron to the US was done at $360 per tonne cfr. The cargo was shipped from the Baltic Sea, however. The price in this deal was higher than in the most-recent previous deal for a similar tonnage...
