CIS STEEL BILLET: Prices soften on downturn in scrap sector

The export price for steel billet from the Commonwealth of Independent states (CIS) softened at the end of the week to Friday March 12, following a downturn in the scrap sector.

Scrap prices in Turkey dropped sharply because of oversupply as well as low demand for rebar in the country's domestic and export markets.
Fastmarkets' daily index for steel scrap, HMS 1&2 (80:20 mix), North Europe origin, cfr Turkey, was $430.63 per tonne on Friday, down by $15.61 per tonne day on day.
