Codelco's Chuquicamata shutdown to last two weeks; refinery running at 30% capacity - sources

The closure of the Chuquicamata copper smelter in Chile could last up to two weeks, Fastmarkets learned on Friday June 26.

The exact duration of the closure will "depend on the number of [Covid-19] cases found," with tests being carried out on staff, a source with direct knowledge of the matter told Fastmarkets.
Meanwhile, the refinery continues to operate at one third of capacity to process existing concentrate, a Codelco spokesman said, adding that the workforce will be reduced for sanitary measures.
