Codelco's Chuquicamata workers to begin strike tomorrow

Employees at the Chuquicamata division of Codelco plan to go on strike from tomorrow, Friday June 14, after union-to-management talks broke down, the three workers' trade unions said on Thursday June 13.

The members of the three workers' trade unions unanimously decided to begin industrial action on Friday after Codelco's latest offer failed to meet workers' expectations over medical expenses and pensions, the union said in a statement on its social media.The unions began negotiating with Chilean state-owned copper producer Codelco's representatives on May 31, with Chilean labor authorities mediating the talks.Workers with the three unions voted between May 28 and May 29 to go on strike because Codelco did not improve upon a previously rejected offer for work contracts.
