Copper demand growth in northeast China to reach 8% per year by 2030

Demand for copper in northeast China is expected to grow at an average of 8% per year by 2030, Yang Changhua, principal copper analyst at Chinese research house Antaike, told delegates at a copper conference in the city of Qiqihar on Friday September 6.

The estimated annual growth rate of 8% is four times that of China's nationwide average of 2% in 2018. Growth at that pace would raise copper consumption in northeast China, including the provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning, to 4.83 kg per capita by 2030, an increase of 132% from 2.08 kg per capita in 2018. But this 4.93-kg figure is still significantly lower than China's average consumption of 8.67 kg per capita last year, Yang said.Overall copper consumption in northeast China totaled 950,000 tonnes in 2018, accounting for just 7.9% of total copper demand...
