Coronavirus hits more steel producers in Europe

More European steel producers have announced production cuts and equipment stoppages because of the measures being taken to combat the 2019-nCoV coronavirus pandemic, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday March 18.

The outbreak continues to hamper steel output in Europe with more producers announcing either stoppages or production slowdowns this week, sources said.
The largest European steel producer, ArcelorMittal, announced its decision to reduce output from its European Flat Products division, "given the extent of the outbreak, and particularly the effect it is having on several European countries in which ArcelorMittal operates," the company's representative said.
Earlier this week, ArcelorMittal Italia announced that it will reduce its steel output and temporarily stop the operation of some equipment during the pandemic.
