Covid-19 shows need for regional critical minerals supply chain, First Cobalt CEO says

The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of regional supply chain security for critical materials like cobalt, the president and chief executive officer of First Cobalt said.

According to Trent Mell, the increasing trend toward electric vehicles (EVs) has added to the impetus to ensure that a reliable and ethical supply of refined cobalt is available for use in batteries.
"If the Covid-19 crisis has taught us anything, it is that regional supply chains for critical goods such as cobalt are necessary for our national economic and security interests," he said.
"The recent health crisis further validates the work that the United States government, working with like-minded allies including Canada, is undertaking in the area of critical minerals," Mell added.
