DAILY SCRAP REPORT: Mills still struggling with firm scrap costs, weak rebar prices

The Turkish deep-sea scrap import markets were relatively quiet on the second day of the working week, with the mills still in negotiations for February cargoes, sources said on Tuesday January 7.

The steel producers in the country had been silent in the deep-sea markets over the past two weeks because of the year-end holiday periods. They resumed their purchases at the end of last week with four cargoes.
The bookings done on Friday and Saturday January 3-4 put the price of HMS 1&2 (80:20) at $301 per tonne cfr from the United States and $297-300 per tonne from Europe.

But more recent offers from the US were heard at $310 per tonne cfr for similar material, while mills' bids...
