David Yurman Wins $1.6M in Counterfeiting Case

RAPAPORT... A New York district court has granted jewelerDavid Yurman protection against websites selling counterfeitmerchandise under its brand. Judge Paul Oetken issued a permanent injunction against 31unnamed websites, preventing them from distributing, advertising or selling anyfake David Yurman products, the jeweler said last week. He also awarded thejeweler nearly $1.6 million in statutory damages, and ordered the defendants to transfer the domain names of all infringing websites to David Yurman. The defendants operated a network of websites that weredesigned to look like authorized David Yurman sites, using the retailer'strademarks and copyrighted campaign images, according to a statement by the company.They then sold imitation products using the jeweler's name. "We are pleased with the judgment, and will continue to takeaggressive action to protect our consumers, our designs and our trademarks,"said Carol Pennelli, president of David Yurman.
