RAPAPORT... De Beers has temporarily stopped work at the Gahcho Ku?(C) mine in Canada following the death of an employee at the site."We are deeply saddened to confirm that an employee...succumbed to injuries sustained in an incident at Gahcho Ku?(C)," the miner said last week. "The circumstances around what happened are under investigation by the appropriate authorities. All nonessential work at the mine has been suspended."The incident occurred on September 1 and involved a worker from a contract partner company, De Beers explained. Gahcho Ku?(C) is a joint venture between De Beers, which holds 51%, and Mountain Province, the owner of the remaining 49%.A De Beers spokesperson declined to comment on the length of the shutdown or the potential effect on rough-diamond production for the quarter. However, he told Rapaport News the company would provide an update on the situation in due course.Image: A drone shot of the Gahcho Ku?(C) mine. (Ben Perry/Armoury Films/De Beers)
