(IDEX Online) - De Beers says new CEO Al Cook will formally take over from Bruce Cleaver on 20 February.
It announced last October that Cleaver, who has been at the helm since 2016, will become co-chairman of the company.
Cook is moving from Equinor, Norway's state-owned petroleum company, where he was executive vice president of exploration and production international.
"I am very pleased to be joining De Beers Group as chief executive officer. De Beers is a truly iconic company with a long, incredible history and an exciting future," he said when his appointment was announced.
Cleaver joined De Beers Group in 2005 and has been a board director since 2008. During his tenure, De Beers launched the world's largest and most sophisticated diamond recovery and exploration vessels and redesigned supply agreements with Sightholders to enhance the efficiency of rough diamond distribution, the company said.
