Decarbonization will need inter-industry collaboration, IAI exec says

Decarbonization is too big a challenge for one single industry to tackle alone and will inevitably lead to collaborative efforts with other sectors, the deputy secretary general of the International Aluminium Institute has said.

Speaking during a briefing on Tuesday October 26, Pernelle Nunez said that the aluminium industry - which is responsible for 2% of global carbon emissions due mostly to the energy-intensive nature of the smelting process - needed to look beyond itself to find the capital and technology required to meet its climate goals.
"We're very open to working with other industries that are developing this infrastructure. We're starting to see the emergence of... industrial hubs or clusters, where you often have several different industries in the same area," according to Nunez, who is also the IAI's director of sustainability.
