Dewatering has begun at the Wingdam underground placer gold project in the Cariboo Mining District in British Columbia. Owner Omineca Mining and Metals (TSXV: OMM) aims to use a ground freezing technology to recover alluvial gold underneath a creek.
The company recently installed a second temporary grout plug to limit water flow from old workings and improve the speed of dewatering.
Work has also begun on rehabilitation of the existing decline and workings. This includes the installation of a permanent engineered grout plug as well as ventilation , heating and electrical infrastructure in preparation for bulk sampling.
Omineca's holdings at Wingdam, 45 km east of Quesnel, include hardrock claims of more than 50,000 hectares and 15 linear kilometres of placer claims along Lightning Creek. Topographic conditions there created a thick overburden which preserved a large portion of an underground channel of gold-bearing gravels, said the company.
The company's stock was trading at $0.31 per share this morning.
