The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a mediocre 66-81-145. The TSX Venture Exchange fell fractionally to 783 while polished diamond prices gained 0.1 per cent. Hugh Stoyell and Johnny Blizzard's Katanga Mining Ltd. (KAT) lost 1.5 cents to 92.5 cents on 3.26 million shares. The company lost $573-million (U.S.) last year, up from the $420-million (U.S.) it lost the year before. The company is sparring with a state-owned company in the Democratic Republic of the Congo regarding the financial situation of their cobalt joint venture.

Douglas Eaton and David Kelsch's GGL Resources Corp, (GGL), up one-half cent to 11.5 cents on 5,000 shares, is back hunting diamonds in Canada's North. The company says it has acquired three new diamond properties in the "prolific" -- for others, not itself -- Lac de Gras district. None of the ground is new to diamond exploration; in fact, one of the properties had been worked by GGL over a decade ago. That 30,667-hectare Bishop project is named after one of the few kimberlites that GGL discovered, in over 10 years of trying.
