The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a ho-hum 74-79-141. The TSX Venture Exchange rose fractionally to 783 while polished diamond prices fell 0.1 per cent. Sheldon Inwentash's Gratomic Inc. (GRAT) gained 1.5 cents to 18 cents on 8.58 million shares. The company, CKR Carbon Corp. until late last year, is seeking graphite at Aukam in Namibia and at Buckingham in Quebec. Lately, it has been touting plans to produce graphene and graphite for use in tires.
Lukas Lundin and Eira Thomas's Lucara Diamond Corp. (LUC), down four cents to $2.06 on 417,000 shares, has recovered another big diamond from its Karowe mine in Botswana. The stone is not huge like the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona or the 813-carat Constellation that the company recovered two days apart in the fall of 2015 and subsequently sold for a total of over $100-million (U.S.). Still, it is big enough to command a significant price at the company's next auction of exceptional diamonds. (These sales of diamonds likely to command a price of at least $1-million (U.S.) are held irregularly, but generally twice a year.)
