The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Wednesday was a positive 84-67-139. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 14 points to 836 while polished diamond prices fell a full percentage point. Matt Manson's Stornoway Diamond Corp. (SWY) closed unchanged at 56 cents on 652,000 shares. The company continues to generate cash flow at its Renard mine in Quebec while it works to fix its diamond breakage problems.
Dermot Desmond and David Whittle's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD), unchanged at $3.41 on 57,000 shares, has concluded its 11th sale of rough diamonds from its 49-per-cent share of the Gahcho Kue mine in the Northwest Territories. The company sold 351,000 carats in the February auction, its first of 2018, for a total of $27.3-million (U.S.). That works out to just under $78 (U.S.) per carat. Last year, Mountain Province sold 2.65 million carats in 10 sales for a total of $178.9-million (U.S.), or $67.50 (U.S.) per carat.
