The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Wednesday was a poor 59-94-137. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 11 points to 831 while rough diamond prices gained 0.2 per cent. Lukas Lundin and Eira Thomas's Lucara Diamond Corp. (LUC) traded actively, gaining seven cents to $2.24 on 2.48 million shares. Paul Ogilvie's Saint Jean Carbon Inc. (SJL), unchanged at three cents on 2.55 million shares, has been quiet since it sold 10.1 million shares at five cents last month.

Ken MacNeill and George Read's perpetual diamond promotion Star Diamond Corp. (DIAM) dropped two cents to 20 cents on 731,000 shares, clinging to the 20-cent mark for a third consecutive day. The stock began a brief rally last Friday, just as the annual dog and pony show put on by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada was beginning in Toronto with Mr. Read, Star Diamond's ebullient senior vice-president, scheduled as one of the featured speakers. (His 25-minute talk, "Star and Orion South: huge kimberlites with large stone potential," took place Monday afternoon. Tuesday morning, Star's stock opened at 24.5 cents, its highest point since last summer. It then slipped southward and Wednesday was equally unkind.)
